With so much change to our normal routines and so much uncertainty, naturally our children are going to be feeling anxious and unsafe. At this time our children are relying on us more than ever to make them feel safe.

One of the key ways that we can do this is through our relationships and connections. This just means spending time together completing an activity with your child where everyone is engaged. This then lets your child know that you are there for them and they are not alone, giving them a sense of safety. This is because completing activities together releases feel good chemicals that make your child feel calm, steady and connected.

This will not only help in the short term but also the long term when normality resumes. Spending quality time with your child when they need it most, tells your child that they are worthy of your help and that they are special and important. This then increases their self-esteem and self confidence in a time when everything happening around us could impact on it.

As an academy we prioritise the well being of everyone including your child and put great importance on it. Therefore, as part of your child’s daily timetable/tasks we would like you to complete a ‘Well being’ activity with your child/ren every day, aiming for a minimum of 20 minutes.   The idea is that during this time you are completely focused on your child and the activity you are completing together.  So, remember to turn the television off and put your phone to one side!

Please click on the link below for this week’s daily well being activity.

However, please don’t let it stop here at one activity. We encourage you at this time to spend time engaging in activities together. This doesn’t have to elaborate, take up huge chunks of time or need lots of special things. It can be as simple as singing a song together or playing ‘I -Spy’.

Other activities could include playing a board game, making lunch together, cooking tea, colouring, telling jokes, building something out of Lego. This list is endless.

We would really love to see pictures of you and your child/ren completing the ‘Well being’ activities together and any other things that you might have done to promote being connected with your child in these difficult times.

Please secure online support for children from a reputable organisation/individual who can provide evidence that they are safe and can be trusted to have access to children.
